On August 1, 2018 the Board of Trustees placed Measure HS – the El 天美影视 Union High School District Repair, Student Safety, Quality Teaching Measure – on the November 2018 ballot.  If adopted by voters, Measure HS will provide $190 million dollars to the District to enable our schools to retain quality teachers; upgrade school safety and security; and expand science, engineering, and computer labs among other needs.

To continue to attract and retain quality teachers, we must ensure our school environments are safe, well-maintained and have the classroom technology for teaching and learning.  Measure HS's funding would provide the basic repairs and safety upgrades necessary for today’s teaching and learning environments. 

Some of our high schools are deteriorating, while others have been repaired.  Our District conducted a comprehensive review of needs at every one of our high schools to identify the most urgent repairs and upgrades.  If enacted, Measure HS will help address the following priorities identified by the community, to make sure that ALL local high schools meet the needs of our students and teachers:

• repairing leaky roofs;
• upgrading school safety and security;
• providing safe drinking water for students;
• upgrading emergency communications systems;
• upgrading fire safety systems including safety doors, smoke alarms and smoke detectors; and
• expanding science, engineering and computer labs.

Q:        What is Measure HS?

A:        On August 1, 2018 the Board of Trustees placed Measure HS, the El 天美影视 Union High School District Repair, Student Safety, Quality Teaching Measure – on the November 6, 2018 ballot.  Measure HS will make urgent basic repairs to old, deteriorating high school buildings and leaky roofs and upgrade classrooms, computer systems, science labs and safety and security systems to keep our students and teachers safe.

Q:        Why was Measure HS placed on the ballot?

A:        While we take excellent care of our schools, many of our neighborhood high schools and classrooms were built decades ago and are in urgent need of basic repairs like fixing leaking roofs and decaying walls, broken plumbing, and aging bathrooms, upgrading electrical systems, wiring for computer technology and improving access for the disabled.   If enacted, Measure HS will keep schools safe and clean by making basic repairs and safety upgrades at all of our high schools, which also helps in our effort to recruit and retain quality teachers.

Q:        How will Measure HS keep our students and teachers safe?          

A:        In today’s environment, it is more important than ever for our local schools to have safety and security protections in place, such as emergency communications systems, cameras, and door locks, as well as fire and earthquake safety systems.  If approved, Measure HS will provide the funds to make sure that our local high school students and teachers are safe at school.

Q:        Will Measure HS address classroom technology?

A:        Yes, Measure HS funding can ensure that all students have access to computers and instructional technology to promote an education with a strong foundation for any career path.  It will fix outdated electrical wiring, improve computer and science and engineering labs.  These investments will ensure our students will have a better opportunity to compete for 21st-century careers.

Q:        What priorities will Measure HS address?

A:        Some of our high schools are deteriorating, while others have already been repaired.  If enacted, Measure HS can ensure that ALL local high schools meet the needs of students and teachers with safe classrooms and up-to-date technology, including:

• Repairing leaky roofs
• Upgrading school safety and security
• Providing safe drinking water for students
• Upgrading emergency communications systems
• Upgrading fire safety systems including safety doors, smoke alarms and smoke detectors
• Expanding science, engineering and computer labs

These upgrades contribute to student learning while helping the District recruit and retain quality teachers.

Q:        How much does Measure HS cost?

A:        Measure HS is a $190 million education bond that will create a dedicated source of local funds to repair and upgrade our local, neighborhood public high schools. Measure HS will cost approximately 3 cents per $100 of assessed, not market, property value.

Q:        When is the election?

A:        Election Day is November 6, 2018.  The last day to register to vote is October 22, 2018.
